On August 15, 2002 the Department of Energy (DOE) announced that its Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has been selected to test the effectiveness of a new Cray Inc. supercomputer architecture in solving important scientific problems in climate, fusion, biology, nanoscale materials and astrophysics. more


Dr. Ray Orbach, director of the DOE Office of Science; Dr. Thomas Zacharia, ORNL associate lab director for Computing and Computational Sciences; and Dave Kiefer, Cray discuss the cooling technology of the Cray X1 (originally called the SV2) coming to the CCS.
